Character design and animation for Andi Bank, creating a friendly financial guide built to make digital banking feel a little less intimidating.

Feeling Lost in the World of Banking? Let ANDI Lead the Way!

Fidelity Bank created Andi as a digital-first banking app built to make managing money simpler and more approachable. The challenge was giving an app with no traditional bank branch a recognizable personality of its own, while speaking to people who were already skeptical of fees, fine print, and the usual frustrations that come with banking.
Working with FMS and Bravo Charlie Tango, I designed and illustrated Andi, a veteran banker turned customer advocate who knows the industry’s tricks and helps users navigate around them. I developed the character to work across animation, advertising, digital products, and campaign content, including the award-winning Andifesto launch film that introduced both the app and its new spokesperson.

Andi’s New Mascot Shakes Things Up

Banking Just Got More Animated

Andi made his debut in the Andifesto, a one-minute animated launch film that introduced the new banking app through the character’s point of view. Rather than walking through features like a typical financial-services video, the piece gave Andi a voice, an attitude, and a reason for being there.

I illustrated and animated the character while working with the larger team on the film, using Andi’s reactions and body language to make some pretty dry banking topics feel more human. The finished piece helped establish how the character would behave across the rest of the brand and went on to receive recognition from the Telly Awards.

Andi with an I

Andi wasn’t designed as a cheerful mascot pasted onto a banking app. The idea was that he had spent years inside the industry and knew exactly where the confusing language, hidden fees, and fine print tended to show up. Now he was using that insider knowledge on the customer’s side.

That backstory gave me more to work with than a generic “friendly banker.” He could be skeptical, frustrated, confident, or reassuring depending on the situation, which gave the character enough personality to carry everything from product explanations to jokes about the financial industry.

Bringing a Human Touch to Finance

A digital bank can be efficient, but efficiency by itself doesn’t give people much to connect with. Andi became the human presence inside the brand: someone who could explain a feature, react to a frustrating banking practice, or simply make the experience feel less anonymous.

Because the character had a simple visual language and a clear personality, he could move between product screens, campaign pieces, educational content, and animation without feeling like a different mascot every time.

ANDI Brings Personality to Corporate Banking

From Bland to Bold

Once Andi had a voice and personality, the character could carry the brand beyond the app. He appeared across digital ads, billboards, and campaign graphics paired with bright colors and headlines that felt much less buttoned-up than traditional financial advertising.

The character gave the campaign a consistent point of view without forcing every piece into the same layout. Sometimes Andi was the focus; other times he acted more like a commentator, reacting to the message or helping land the joke.

Creating a Modern Bank Mascot with Vintage Flair

From Paper to Pixels

I started Andi on paper, working through poses, proportions, expressions, and just how polished—or unpolished—he should feel. The final character kept a slightly retro, hand-drawn quality that made him approachable without turning him into a cartoon banker cliché.

I also kept the construction deliberately simple and modular. His silhouette had to read quickly, while his face, hands, and body needed enough flexibility to handle a wide range of emotions and movement. That made Andi easier to illustrate and animate consistently as the brand expanded.
