KMFDM – Doin' It Again!

KMFDM is an influential industrial rock band that has been cited by many modern acts as being highly influential to their sound. For over 30 years, KMFDM has delivered hard hitting, heavy rock/metal riffs with a punk attitude and a satirical, ironic wit. They have become a cult favorite to many fans and continue to push the boundaries of their sound, staying in the forefront of modern industrial rock culture. KMFDM‘s legacy is an exciting blend of raw power and edgy artistry.

KMFDM had forged a unique aesthetic, though visually inconsistent due to different designers’ approaches. I was given the opportunity to unify KMFDM‘s visual style across all their albums and singles with their remastering and re-release project. With the aim of creating a standard for every KMFDM release, I created a unified design for the covers, lyrics, photos, credits and more. This strong signature style has been successfully implemented in every KMFDM release since.

KMFDM‘s Visual and Conceptual Revolution

KMFDM worked hard to establish a strong brand that was recognizable both visually and musically. Initially, there were inconsistencies and this led to a few hangups along the way. Fortunately, all of these issues were eventually ironed out when the band obtained the rights to their entire back catalogue. This enabled them to remaster and re–release all of their music with improved audio quality, expanded liner notes, and additional artwork, photographs and other historical notes. This allowed KMFDM to create a cohesive visual presence that was tied to its overall conceptual continuity, which further strengthened their brand identity.
