Using NFTs to Make a Mockery of the Craze

Flushing Away the Fad

In the first part of our process along with Topps, we identified the highest profile and most recognizable NFT and crypto-related projects. We then brainstormed and created natural gags and visual puns related to those projects. Finally, we attempted to interweave existing Garbage Pail Kids characters that fans would recognize, know, and love, to make the “Non-Flushable Tokens” NFT release more inviting and make an inviting connection between traditional trading card collectors and new generation Garbage Pail Kids NFT collectors.

Bringing Art to Life with GIFs

From Brush Strokes to Flush Strokes!

The challenge of creating animation for the Garbage Pail Kids “Non-Flushable Tokens” artwork is twofold. First, we must ensure that the original artwork is faithfully recreated. Second, we must develop a gag or motion that is both funny and true to the artist‘s vision and the GPK brand. Striking this balance can be difficult, but with carefully crafted animation and humor, it is possible to create animated NFTs that both enhance the original artwork and stay true to the artist‘s intent.

Finally Flushing a Childhood Dream

A Step Away from Potty Training

To say Topps was thrilled to have me on board for their new Garbage Pail Kids “Non-Flushable Tokens” NFT project would be an understatement. The entire release sold out in 20 minutes. My expertise in the entire process – from ideation to sketching, painting, and animation – was invaluable in making this project a success. I worked with the team from the very beginning, developing ideas and concepts for the new characters and digital cards. I then worked on creating sketches of a few characters which eventually lead to my painting the characters. Finally, I used my animation skills to create digital Garbage Pail Kids cards that were both visually stunning and fun to watch. It was a pleasure to be part of this project from start to finish, and I am proud to say that the results were truly successful. As a fan of Garbage Pail Kids since I was a child, you could say I had been preparing for it my whole life.
